  1. My DNA surname matches Chavis, Locklear, Collins, Chapman Oxendine, Smith, Taylor, Nash, Bowling, Stringer, Strother, Goins, Driggers, and many more! My mother’s grandmother is a Harmon. Hammond (Harmon) is on Walter Plecker’s list! I have many DNA match ancestors who were born in Robeson County North Carolina. I also have a small amount of Native and Roma ancestry. The Harmons are a part of the Nanticoke tribe. I’m pretty sure my mother descended from the Melungeon or Brass ankle people. I have suspicions about my father descending from them as well. His paternal line is Harris and his maternal is Scott and Ingram. Does anyone know if Green/Greene, Tolbert, or Sanders/Saunders are associated with the Melungeons or Redbone? I keep getting them as DNA matches. Thanks!

    1. My maiden name is Sanders and my grandfather was from Iowa. His parents were from Cornwall England and they came over and also settled in Iowa. There original name was Sandercock and had it changed in the 1900’s. I had a hard time researching my family tree ( Sanders ) until I found the petition for the last name change. My aunts had reddish highlights in there hair as well as myself. I was born with blondish hair and hazel eyes and they turned dark brown as I got older. I hope the surname Sanders is helpful.

  2. Hello

I was wondering if you have any information on the surname Maggard. It is my maternal grandmothers maiden name. I often ask her what we are and she says “oh black Dutch” or Heinz 57:) Her father was born in Arkansas

  3. Looking for birth record and marriage record for my great great grandfather Silas Dixon. He was born July 19,1863 in Indian Territory. He is a Choctaw. His mother is Sally Goings Dixon Bench and AJ Dixon. Silas is listed in the 1885 census as ‘Bud’ Dixon age 20 years. His wife Elizabeth (maiden name Barrett) age 20 years along with my 3 year old great grandfather Jesse Dixon and Silas’ one year old son Wallace.

Where could I find a birth and marriage record.

Also Elizabeth shows citizen by marriage. Does that mean Silas has his Dawes number for the Choctaw tribe. Family lore says he died before acquiring a Dawes number but Elizabeth’s entry on this census suggests otherwise.

My grandmother Viola (Dixon) Abbott has passed. I wish I would have asked more questions.

My name is Donnette Haddad. Sallie Goings Dixon Bench was my great great great grandmother.

Do you have and info on my relatives?

  5. I am related to Hardisons/Burroughs/Bennetts from Martin and Beaufort Counties in NC. We were told that my great grandmother was 100% Native, making me 1/8 but imagine my surprise when I did my DNA and had zero Native but instead African. I would love to learn more about the matter…I do have some photos of ancestors back to late 1800s and some ancestral data if there is anything I can contribute.
